RAIL BUDGET 2016-2017

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on February 25, 2016 presented his second railway budget 2016-2017 in Lok Sabha. In Budget 2016-2017, he increased plan outlay to Rs 1.21 lakh crore from around Rs 1 Lakh crore in the previous budget 2015-2016.

Theme of railway budget 2016-2017

1. Overcoming challenges – Reorganize, Restructure Rejuvenate Indian Railways: ‘Chalo, Milkar Kuch Naya Karen’

1. Three pillars of the strategy i.e. Nav Arjan – New revenues, Nav Manak – New norms, Nav Sanrachna – New Structures.

      Railway Budget 2016-2017 -  Important Anouncements :

(a) To increase lower berth quota for senior citizens by 50%.
(b) Three new services will be introduced (viz. Humsafar, Tejas, UDAY Express) for general(Un reserved) passengers.
(c) Railways to introduce Antyodaya, for long distance passengers.
(d) Deen Dayalu unreserved coaches with facilities like water, mobile charging points, Worlds first bio-toilet in Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express.
(e) Rail mitra Sewa for old and disabled passengers.
(f) Janani Sewa for providing food for children, Smart coaches with automatic doors, bio vaccum tiolets.

      Railway Budget 2016-2017  - Modernisation and Techonology :

(a) 1600 km of electrification this year and 2000 km proposed for nex year 2017.
(b) Aastha circuit trains to connect important pilgrim centres.
(c) E-ticketing capacity raised to 7200/min from 2000/min.
(d) Sales of tickets through hand held terminal soon.
(e) 400 stations to have wifi, 100 in next yaer 2017.
(f) Mobile app to deal with customer issues, ticketing issues, complaints. Information boards in trains, GPS Based digital display inside coaches.
(g) Rail Bandhu Magazines to be start by railways.
(h) Fm radio stations to provide entertainment.
(i) 17,000 bio-toilets at 475 railway stations by the end of financial year.

      Railway Budget 2016-2017 - Rail Passenger Safety

(a) CCTV for all major stations.
(b) All India 24x7 helpline for women.
(c) Bar coded tickets, scanners on pilot basis.
(d) 33% reservation to women in reserved quota to be introduced.
(e) in addition, within all coaches, middle birth will be reserved for women to enhance security.

     Railway Budget 2016-2017 - New Projects :

(a) Overnight double-decker trains UDAY Express to be introduced on busiest routes.
(b) North-East India especially Manipur and Mizoram to be connected by broad gauge.
(c) Special purpose vehicle for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai high speed corridor registered this month.
(d) Braod Guage Lumdng-Silchar section in assam, connecting barak valley with rest of the country.

     Railway Budget 2016-2017 - New Projects :

(a) Clean my Coach : railway will introduce this in pan-india basis where a passenger can request for cleaing his/her coach/toilets on demand through SMS. 30,000 bio-toilets will be introduced next year 2017
